
A native of Miami, Lisa was born in Coral Gables. Raised in her District (117), she attended both public and private schools. Lisa attended Carrollton and graduated from Epiphany in 1979 and from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in 1983. Lisa studied at the Jesuit college of University of San Diego and received her Bachelor of Arts from University of Florida in 1987. Lisa went on to earn her Juris Doctor locally from St. Thomas University School of Law in 1993.
Lisa has worked in the legal field most of her life. Lisa worked for Miami-Dade County as an assistant Clerk of Court. She clerked for several attorneys including Dubé & Wright Law Firm (Robert Dubé is now a Federal Magistrate). Lisa has practiced law for over fifteen years. Lisa has personally handled thousands of cases throughout South Florida, appearing before many different Judges and Jurisdictions. She has experience in family law, criminal defense, juvenile, probate, civil, domestic violence, traffic, appellate, and has appeared in the Third District Court of Appeal. Lisa is a member of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; Cuban American Bar Association and The 11th Judicial Historical Society. She was twice chosen to serve as a foreperson on Miami-Dade County juries. Edward Blumberg, a former Florida Bar President, personally appointed Lisa to serve on Florida Bar Committees. Mr. Blumberg is Lisa's Campaign Manager.
Miami has been home to The Lesperance Family since 1941. Her oldest brother, Lawrence is a Coral Gables' dentist. Her other brother, Robert, is also a local attorney. Both her brothers attended Belen Jesuit and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School, where Lisa was a cheerleader.
Lisa is the great, great Granddaughter of Henryk Sienkiewicz, a Nobel Prize Recipient for his novel Quo Vadis. Public service runs in the Lesperance family. Lisa's grandfather served as a councilman in North Miami. Lisa's maternal grandmother was the Head Registered Nurse of North Shore Hospital and a resident of Miami Shores with Lisa's mother, Patricia. Her paternal grandmother has volunteered thousands of hours at Miami's Veteran's (V.A.) Hospital. Lisa's father, Louis, grew up in Miami and graduated from the Miami Military Academy. He then graduated from The Citadel, the "Military College of the South." Louis proudly served with the United States Marine Corps and was the Adjutant of the Marine Corps Reserve Unit in Miami. Earning his law degree in 1959 from University of Miami, he was an Assistant State Attorney under Gerstein. Louis just celebrated 50 years with The Florida Bar.
Lisa volunteers with many local charities. She is an Emmaus Sister with her church, where she was also an assistant Youth Director. She served on the Catholic Charities Gala Committee. Lisa is a member (and prior Board Member) of the Coral Gables Woman's Club, which is a non-profit organization that runs a dental clinic for underprivileged children. She serves on Woman's Club's Domestic Violence Committee. An animal lover, Lisa adopted two stray dogs. She is a volunteer for the Junior Orange Bowl and a Corporate Sponsor for The Transplant Foundation. She has been actively involved in Relay for Life and Susan Komen events. Lisa is an active member of The Woman's Fund; Concerned Citizens of Northeast Dade; Democratic Power; Miami-Dade Democratic Hispanic Caucus and a Board Member of The South Dade Democratic Club. Lisa volunteers to register new citizens to vote throughout Miami-Dade. She was chosen as a Delegate at the '09 Democratic State Conference.
Lisa would be honored to continue serving the community as your next State Representative, District 117, when elected in 2010.
